The Office of the President - MKURABITA, through the Rural Land Formalization Unit in April 2022, will conduct the capacity-building activity for the District Councils of Newala andMasasi and Newala Township Council by formalizing more than 4,000farms in Mitema and Chilangaravillages of NewalaDistrict Council,Nkulung'uluvillage in Newala Town Council and two villages of Lupaso and Mpeta in Masasi District Council.

This formalization exercise in the mentioned councils will involve theoretical and practical training for the Participatory Land Use Management (PLUM) team, the Village Land Planning Committees (VLUMC), and the Village Adjudication Committee (VAC) in the villages mentioned. The above committees will be instrumental in preparing the respective Land Use Plans. The overall objective of the capacity building is to empower the village councils to manage their respective village land.

In addition, MKURABITA will promote the benefits of formalization and its benefits at the Executive Committee (CMT) levels in all three councils and the rural farmers' community.

In collaboration with other stakeholders and experts, MKURABITA will also train farmers on agribusiness to increase productivity in agricultural activities, raise capital and enhance the value chain of agricultural activities in those areas.
